Milwaukee Gears up for March Parades In fulfilling our mission of community outreach, we will be working with the Hunger Task Force and in cooperation with the Shamrock Club and members of other Irish organizations, to run a food collection along the parade routes on Saturday, March 14. The Hunger Task Force will provide the grocery carts and man a truck. The Chapter will need to provide the volunteers to push the carts along the parade route and collect non perishable food items. If you are willing to help with this effort by pushing one of our carts, please call. | |
Milwaukee: Storybook Launch The Storybook of Saint Patrick, which was originally written & illustrated by the Saint Patrick Centre, is now being printed thanks to the generosity of several donors including the Milwaukee Irish Fest Foundation, the Ancient Order of Hibernians Foundation, Callen Construction and William Ryan Drew. Working with Archbishop Dolan and the Archdiocesan office, 240 copies of the book will be distributed February 19 to 120 schools in 10 counties. A forward by the Archbishop is included in the book. Marci Pelzer, a Friend’s member who is in the PR business, is busy publicizing the book. There will be a story in the Catholic Herald in the next few weeks on the book and a follow up story closer to St Patrick’s Day on the Chapter and the Centre. She is also working on a radio interview. Archbishop Dolan has been very supportive of this project and when Dr Campbell was here last week, the Archbishop agreed to participate in a video with children from Mother of Good Counsel Grade School to talk about the importance of the story of St Patrick. Dr Campbell has now taken the video back to Northern Ireland where he hopes it will be part of a BBC international program being done about the work of the Saint Patrick Centre. We are also in discussion with a couple of bookstores who are interested in handling the book. The remaining 260 books will be available for purchase and if any members have suggestions on other ways to raise awareness about the book, please give Tom a call at 529-5509.
