The Young Ambassador Program has been running since 2008 and is the flagship project of the the Saint Patrick Centre, a charitable organisation in Downpatrick, County Down, housing the only exhibition in the World about Ireland’s Patron Saint.
Young Ambassadors are aged 20-25 years old and candidates are chosen who will make a positive difference to society throughout their working lives. The Program runs for two weeks every June and during this time Young Ambassadors meet leading politicans and peacemakers from Stormont to Áras an Uachtaráin and explore all the cultures and traditions of Ireland.
The aim of the Program is to make our Young Ambassadors a network of informed influential future leaders of Irish communities in Canada and around the World. For many it is an experience which they describe as ‘life changing’ and certainly provides unique personal knowledge which will inform them throughout their lives. Former alumni range from teachers and journalists to those who work with politicians in Washington DC, whilst others run the largest Irish Festivals in the World or have become Executive Directors for major Irish Cultural Centres and organisations. Northern Ireland is an incredibly diverse part of Ireland and provides a perfect platform to learn about Irish history, society and culture. It is a developing model for community reconciliation – something at the heart of the ethos of Saint Patrick and the Saint Patrick Centre. Our Young Ambassadors now number over 200 and we are making a difference all over the World.
