Saint Patrick is buried on Cathedral Hill in the graveyard of Down Cathedral and can be accessed through the Gardens of the Saint Patrick Centre.

Yes and according to the Irish Annals, St. Brigid and St. Columcille also lie buried with St. Patrick, making the site especially revered as the final resting place of a trinity of saints important in Irish history and culture.

How to prepare

You can come early if you want to use the cafe or shop. For all walks and admissions it is important to leave enough time to get to Downpatrick – the traffic can sometimes be busy for a small town and it takes time to park. Try to be here at least 15 minutes before you start.

If you arrive late we will try our best to facilitate you, although you may miss part of your adventure.

Yes we can take belongings and store them while you are in the Saint Patrick Centre Exhibition.

For outdoor experiences pack rainproof clothing, wear sturdy shoes and have sunscreen.

Accessibility

The exhibition offers English, French, Italian, Spanish, Irish and German.

Yes it is located in the pre-pay car park opposite the main building.

 

Yes the entire building and exhibition is disabled friendly and an elevator is available to give access to the Cafe and gardens.

Yes, but only during Café opening hours from 9 am- 4 pm Monday to Saturday.

Car parking at Down Cathedral is extremely limited. A pre-pay car park is in front of the Saint Patrick Centre with over 100 spaces.
